Team News: Titans v Dings Crusaders

Round 7 of National 1 sees Rotherham Titans travel to the Southwest to take on Dings Crusaders at Shaftesbury Park; kick-off on Saturday is 3pm.

Rotherham will go into the game on the back of a narrow 27-26 win against Rosslyn Park at Clifton Lane last time out.

Titans had the majority of territory and possession against Rosslyn and there can be no doubt the better team on the day deserved their spoils.

Titans bonus point victory also extended their lead at the top of National One to three points, ahead of Rosslyn Park, Blackheath, Plymouth Albion and Rams who are all hot on the heals of the South Yorkshire side.

Meanwhile Dings Crusaders will come into the game with a mixed set of results this term, the highlight being a 34-19 bonus point win away to Birmingham Moseley.

They have however had to cope with a difficult set of opening fixtures which have seen them lose to three of the top five sides in Rosslyn Park, Rams and Blackheath, although the latter defeat was a narrow 5-point reversal at Shaftesbury Park.

The sides have previously met on two occasions, both of which took place last season, with Rotherham running out victors both times in highly competitive games.

Going into Saturday’s match Rotherham have made 6 changes to their starting XV, four of which come in the forwards.

In the front row hooker Luke Cole comes in for Morgan Veness and he’ll be flanked by Alastair Donkor who comes in for Zach Toerien at loosehead prop and Andrew Foster at tighthead.

The second row sees Curran Maguire come in for Frankie Gascoigne and he’ll link-up with Harry Gilson-Fox, whilst in the back row, alongside John Okafor at blindside and skipper Harry Newborn at openside, Fraser Hastie comes in at number 8 for Ellis Thomas.

Along the backline, there’s a new combination in the half backs; Noah Cowan comes in at scrum half for JB Bruzulier and Joe Cummins comes in at fly half for Rob Povey, whilst in midfield Travis Gordon continues alongside Lloyd Hayes.

The back three sees Mitchell Lacey-Babalola on one wing with Jackson Barling on the other and Isaac Shaw at full back.
